Former Parramatta Eels NRL star and two-time Dally M medalist, Jarryd Hayne, has shown his wares in his first ever American Football match for the San Francisco 49ers against the Houston Texans.
With top string running backs Reggie Bush and Carlos Hyde rested for the match Hayne was given top billing in the backfield.
His first involvement in the game was a 2-yard run off his own line to give the 9ers some breathing space. His next touch was vintage Hayne.
Taking the ball from the quarter back, Hayne spotted the gap in the defensive line and burst up-field. He beat free safety Raheem Moore with a left foot step before stumbling and being pushed out of bounds a mere 13 yards from the goal line.
Hayne's 53 yard run set the Twittersphere alight and was the biggest run of the night for either side.
He fielded two punts and a kickoff, beating at least two defenders on each return with his biggest being a 34 yard return from the second half kickoff.
Whilst there is still a month until the NFL season proper kick off, Hayne has come through his first test in flying colours.
A poor showing here could've put his career in jeopardy.
Hayne's performance in this match has showcased his athletic talent and shown that he's not just a sideshow attraction.
He remains a work in progress and it'll be a challenge to perform well consistently but his first showing has been full of positive signs.
